Analyses of metals in pulp and chips

MF-1 Metals in pulp and chips
Al (24) As (10) Ba (0.2) Ca (40) Cd (2)
Co (2) Cr (2) Cu (2) Fe (10) K (100)
Mg (16) Mn (0.5) Mo (2) Na (24) Ni (2)
P (6) Pb (10) Ti (2) V (2) Zn (1)
Accredited analyses are marked in bold. Figures in brackets denote limits of quantification in mg/kg dry weight. Minimum sample amount: 1 g dry matter. Sample preparation required. Method: ICP-AES.

Digestion: Samples are dried at 50°C and dissolved in a mixture of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide in sealed teflon containers in a microwave system.

MF-2 Metals in pulp and chips

As (0.08) Cd (0.005) Co (0.005) Cr (0.03) Cu (0.1)
Hg (0.01) Mn (0.04) Ni (0.04) Pb (0.04) Zn (0.2)
Figures in brackets denote limits of quantification in mg/kg dry weight. Minimum sample amount: 1 g dry matter. Sample preparation required. Method: ICP-AES/ICP-SFMS.

Digestion: Samples are dried at 50°C and dissolved in a mixture of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide in sealed teflon containers in a microwave system.

Analytical package MF-2 is also appropriate for packaging materials.

MF-3 Metals in pulp and chips
after ashing; hydrochloric acid-soluble portion
Al (0.6) Ba (0.005) Ca (1) Co (0.05) Cr (0.05)
Cu (0.05) Fe (0.3) K (2) Mg (0.4) Mn (0.02)
Mo (0.05) Na (0.6) Ni (0.05) P (0.2) Ti (0.05)
V (0.05) Zn (0.02)
Figures in brackets denote limits of quantification in mg/kg dry weight. Minimum sample amount: min 10 g dry matter. Sample preparation may be required. Method: ICP-AES.
Digestion (SCAN-CM 38 R-modified): Samples are incinerated in two stages at 250°C and 550°C, respectively. The ash is taken to dryness with HCl on a hotplate four times. The residue is dissolved in nitric acid.

Sr (0.05) Ti (1) V (0.1) W (2.5) Y (0.1)
Zn (0.5) Zr (0.1)
Figures in brackets denote limits of quantification in mg/kg dry weight at ash content 5%. Minimum sample amount: 50 g dry matter.Sample preparation may be required. Method: ICP-AES. Delivery time: approximately 10-15 workdays.
Digestion: Samples are dried at 105°C, ashed at 550°C, fused with lithium metaborate at 1000°C and dissolved in dilute nitric acid.

MF-5 Metals in pulp and chips
after acid digestion/fusion

Al (8) As (0.08) Ba (0.1) Be (0.03) Ca (28)
Cd (0.005) Co (0.005) Cr (0.5) Cu (0.1)  Fe (2)
Hg (0.01) K (21) La (0.3) Mg (6) Mn (1)
Mo (0.3) Na (15) Nb (0.3) Ni (0.04) P (1)

Ti (1) V (0.1) W (2.5) Y (0.1) Zn (0.2)
Zr (0.1)
Figures in brackets denote limit of quantification in mg/kg dry weight at ash content 5%. Minimum sample amount: 50 g dry matter. Sample preparation may be required. Method: ICP-AES/ICP-SFMS.
Digestion (a combination of MF-2 and MF-4): Samples are dried at 50°C after which As, Cd, Co, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, S and Zn are digested with a mixture of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide in sealed teflon containers in a microwave system and determined. Other elements are determined after ashing at 550°C, fusion with lithium metaborate and dissolution of the fusion residue in dilute nitric acid. Delivery time: approximately 10-15 workdays.
